The Heart Of Historic Route 66

Monday 5/20/2019    This morning we left Holbrook, Arizona and headed 250 miles south-west to Kingman, Arizona.  What a crazy travel day it was because of the weather.  The morning in Holbrook was clear and cool, around 45 degrees.  As we headed west toward Flagstaff the temperature started dropping until it reached the low of 33 degrees.  We endured high winds, rain, sleet, hail, and snow.  Then about 40 miles from Kingman the skies cleared up and the temperature rose to the high 50s although it continued to be windy.  We are staying two nights at Fort Beale RV Park in Kingman.

Tuesday 5/21/2019     Our campground in Kingman is very close to Historic Route 66.  And, of course, I found a museum to visit.  It's the Arizona Route 66 Museum located inside the Powerhouse Visitor Center.  It's not a very large museum but it has a lot of Route 66 memorabilia and information related to the small towns that lined it.  We even found a Pepsi tray from the 1950s with the name Wills Pizzeria on an awning.  Texaco Gas Stations seemed to have been numerous out here in the past.  When we saw enough of the museum we walked outside where they have a locomotive and a few train cars on display.  The last picture is of a 1950s police car parked in front of Mr. D'z Route 66 Diner.  The remainder of the day we just spent in the trailer.

Wednesday 5/22/2019     Today we are headed to Desert Hot Springs in California.
